Our work with unions, charities and trusts

We work with a variety of local unions, charities and trusts including the RMT's Offshore Energy Branch, Belhelvie Community Trust, Ythan District Salmon Fishery Board and the River Ythan Trust.

RMT Offshore Energy Branch

RMT Offshore Energy Branch

Client: RMT's Offshore Energy Branch, provide protection and support to workers across the Offshore energy sector including oil and gas, renewables, maritime operations and decommissioning.

Brief: design a new site for the Offshore Energy Branch (part of the RMT union) with a focus on news from the branch and across the industry.

Actions:  We spoke with the branch officers to establish what they needed from the site and how it could benefit their members. They wanted to create a site that provided a full archive of their newsletter, news & views from members, key information about membership and was easy for them to update.

Training: we ran a bespoke training session and provided a training manual to support them in maintaining the site themselves.

Review: "From our very first contact with Doric Design we have enjoyed an incredible level of support and guidance, in short, they simply couldn't have been more helpful. At every stage of our website design Carolyne and Dan have involved our committee members.

This has required considerable effort on their part, as not all committee members are familiar with computer systems!  Through all the stages of construction, design, and launch, and subsequently the production of the operating manual and provision of training, the support from Doric Design has been excellent.

Even those on the committee lacking in competence have been able to grasp the process following the training session and reading the operating manual. As a committee, we cannot thank the Doric Design team enough and we wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to any individual or group thinking about developing a website."

Homepage of the River Ythan site

The River Ythan

Client: Ythan District Salmon Fishery Board and the River Ythan Trust.

Brief: build a new site for the Board and the Trust explaining who they are, the river projects they run and provide an easy way for them to advertise their meetings (with agenda and minutes to download) and reports. The site also needed to inform local people and visitors about the river, how and where to fish on the river and display the work of local photographers who donated the use of their photos.

Actions:  we talked to the groups about what they wanted to show on the site, especially their river improvement projects, reports on the health of the river and fish stocks.  They also wanted the site to be as easy as possible for them to keep up to date. We identified who would be using the site, especially the local and visiting anglers, local community and the groups themselves (Board members and Trust Directors), and what information they wanted to know. From this we developed content, pages and a design. We wrote specific content that can be used by search engines (page titles and descriptions) so the site can be found easily online.

Special features: we built an easy upload tool for adding meetings, agendas, minutes and reports to the site that automatically adds the documents to the pages for meetings and reports  along with the information about the meeting date, document author and publication date.

Training: we ran a bespoke training session and provided a short manual for the Board and Trust

Homepage of the Formartine Rural Partnership

The Formartine Rural Partnership

New website

Client: the Formartine Rural Partnership, Aberdeenshire. The Partnership provides funding and support to communities, groups and charities across the Formartine area.

Brief: build a new site for the new charity using the .scot domain, create content, structure and design. Information should reflect the work of the Partnership, the support the team can offer and  funding local groups can apply for. People and groups should be able to apply for funding online.

Actions: we discussed the site and grant application process with the Partnership and what they wanted to achieve. We identified who would be using the site, especially the local communities, volunteer groups, charities and Aberdeenshire Council (who fund one of the schemes) and what information they wanted to know. From this we developed content, pages and a design. We wrote specific content that can be used by search engines (page titles and descriptions) so the site can be found easily online.

Special features: we developed a grant management system for funding applications. Groups, charities and individuals from the area can apply online, trustees can review applications and their administrator can report on the process through the system.

Belhelvie Community Trust

New website

Client: The Belhelvie Community Trust, Aberdeenshire.
The Trust supports community projects and groups in Balmedie, Belhelvie, Potterton, Whitecairns and Blackdog, Aberdeenshire.

Brief: redesign the site, create new content, page structure and design. Information should reflect the activities of the Trust and show funders the work of the Trust. The group were happy to move the site onto the same hosting and content management system as their other two sites (The Sand Bothy and Beach Wheelchairs).

Actions: we discussed the site with the Trust and what they wanted to achieve with it. We thought through who would be coming to the site, especially the community, volunteers and funders and what information they wanted to know. From this we developed content, pages and a design. We wrote specific content that can be used by search engines (page titles and descriptions) so the site can be found easily online.

Special features: we reused images from the Trust’s Facebook page to show the Trust at work in the local community and really reflect all the projects they are running and supporting.

Review: "Belhelvie Community Trust is very happy to be working with Doric Design!

The company designed a website for our Sand Bothy project and we are so happy with it that they have since produced a further 2 sites for us – Balmedie Beach Wheelchairs and Belhelvie Community Trust itself. Doric Design make the whole process straightforward for the customer, from initial draft proposal to finished product.

They ask all the essential questions to give the reader relevant information so that the websites produced are thoroughly researched, attractive, informative and up-to-date with appropriate links to other relevant organisations.

They take a genuine interest in our projects, and have become a very helpful and approachable resource for BCT.
Thank you Doric Design!"
